Gene Reed started his love of dance in 2000.  Being a new student at USC, he went to a  weekly dance class taught by fellow students.  For several months the students would meet, learn, and practice.  Being new to dancing, Gene was very shy and very timid, but he enjoyed it.

Then 2004 he was asked to join an Argentine Tango class, taught by Harby Gonzalez.  Gene received countless hours of teaching, training, and inspiration from Harby. Soon after joining his class, Gene began a three year training period, in which he went to every group class and even private lessons.  Without Harby's dedication to tango, Gene would not be where he is today.

During the summer of 2005 Gene enrolled in a three month ballroom program at the Ballroom Dance Center in Augusta,GA.  Soon after he began teaching (while still training with Harby) until winter of 2006.  While in Augusta dancing away, Gene recieved a call from his mother telling him that his step-father had cancer.  Returning back to Columbia to be with his family, Gene dedicated more training with Harby and Gabrielle Celeste, who soon would become his professional partner (owner and operator of Celestial Stars Dance Academy).  While training, he quickly formed a small class at Celestial Stars, which is held every Wednesday.  He attended master workshops with Alex Krebbs (2006 in Durham, NC) and Homer Ladas (2007 in Ashville, NC), and Orlando Farias (2008 in Columbia, SC).  He started teaching at MUSC in Charleston, SC in Oct 2007.  Soon after, he relocated to The Ballroom Dance CLUB in West Ashley (outside of downtown Charleston) and is held every Monday.

Training with Gabrielle, Gene began developing tango into his own style.  "Tango is an expression of passion! Let them express it freely and however they wish!", quoted from Gene during one of his lessons.
